Woody's Roundup - gigs, radio, buzzing...

Last night's Anti-Valentine show at the Brudenell was amazing - thanks for coming along. Victoria, "Elizabeth", Joe and Alex were all amazing performers and it was a riotously funny occasion.

I'm glad that I have so many gigs coming up in Leeds - and playing London on the 5th of May - see the gigs page for details on all of those.

Keep downloading the podcast - I will be recording episode 2 soon.

Thanks to the excellent Chris Chinchilla for adding me to his Buzz section - click on his name to check out his website, plenty of info and free downloads there.

Thanks also to RadioNowhere for playing Rhythm Rebel on their Live Request show. It's a great little station.

Brand New Podcast

I play stuff by me and it's presented by me, but also has excellent bands like Luxembourg, Das Wanderlust, Yes Boss and, er, Kandyfloss.

It's called the Instant Classic podcast.

Go here and download/subscribe. It's like the radio, only presented by a rank amateur.

Radio! Show! Valentine's Day!

We love Bailrigg FM, who keep playing Penny Broadhurst tracks. Cool. Big up to the Rachel Neiman Experience show.

I am playing the Atrium in Leeds tomorrow, please come. Especially as the headliners, Performance are ace and the PA cost tons to make their show awesome, so come along and I get an audience and the promoter doesn't get bankrupted. Score. There's me on at 9 downstairs, don't miss it, and DJing from Yes Boss and Dan Transformer down there too, and then upstairs the Bazaars and Performance and a lovely other band, Zapped By A Million Volts (but they're on during my set, so, er...). Cor, and fre drinks and burlesque dancers and local celebs.

On Valentine's Day, I am doing this:

Love! Lust! Luck?A Showcase Review

14 February, 2006 The Brudenell Social Club, 33 Queens Road, Leeds
7:30/8:00pm, £3

We’ve all been there...head over heels in love? Loveless? Horny with nowhere to stick it or randy with nobody sticking it. Love! Lust! Luck? Is a showcase revue of different artists and their play at the woes of our listless, lustful, longing for luck at the game of love. For all of you who are annoyed or deeply offended by Valentines Day (or just don't really like it), find your antidote for the 14th at the Brudenell.

Performers Alexandra Hlinyanszky and Joe Lapinski from Suitcase In Point Theatre Company will be arriving in Leeds hailing all the way from Ontario, Canada to perform comedy, music and poetry tried, tested and true in their own backyard and surely as sinful, absurd and tittilating to the Brits. The Suitcasers will be performing and making music alongside Webstergotts, the wacky performance duo from Sheffield, and Penny Broadhurst, the witty and cunning Leeds-based spoken word performer.A night of raunchy performance and music will take the edge off the dreaded V-day and guarantee some laughs. Come out for this cultural love exchange, and bring a condom.

Gig on Tuesday! Fenton gig changes date...

Come and see me at the Atrium on Tuesday 7th with top bands, DJs and burlesque dancers - I am due on downstairs at 9.

The Fenton gig on 21st Feb has moved to Wednesday 1st March (The Fenton, Woodhouse lane, Leeds)£3 in 8pm start :

HOOKER…"With minimum fuss and maximum impact, the power trio take the stage, then the audience, by storm. Armed with a voice even more banshee-like than Corin Sleater-Kinney, singer/guitarist Zoe McVeigh belts out songs that grind and ache with the sharpest of edges" Fake DIY Review Hooker are just incredible and send shivers down my spine every time I see them. In the past few years hooker have secured support slots with many of the current cream of the grrrl rock scene; Le Tigre, The Donnas, 50 Foot Wave, Brassy, Katastrophy Wife and The Gossip.www.hookerstuff.com

MZ SOJOURN … they say they're like a big heap of moving junk clanging and banging together with people trapped inside. But I'd say they're one of the most amazing blues-punk-rock creative unit I've ever seen around leeds they just like to hide under their mystery every now and then. www.myspace.com/mzsojourn

THE SEVEN INCHES … Being a seven inch is to be a footsoldier of beauty, with joie de vivre as your creed. To bear a commitment to socialist folk music, soul power, classical sturm und drang, rock and roll realism, pop love, gospel truth, experimental ideology, and punk creativity. It's a belief in content over competence, style over content, and honesty over style. It's the need to provide a pop-up paper theatre, a miniature masquerade, a quixotic cultural melee and to dance and dance till the musics over www.myspace.com/theseveninches www.theseveninches.co.uk

Plus incredible visuals by vabe ( www.vabe.co.uk), intelligent, witty and anti-poet spoken word by local heroine PENNY BROADHURST (www.pennybroadhurst.com ) plus zine distro and cake!
